Graduate Teacher Profile

This project aims to develop a digitally supported approach to assessment for professional experience subjects across all Faculty of Education Initial Teacher Education programs. The goal is to ensure consistent and timely feedback to teacher candidates while also creating a graduate teacher profile that demonstrates competencies necessary for the contemporary educational context. The project aligns with the spirit and intention of the Faculty and AITSL graduate teacher standards and has Melbourne Metrics as the lead organisation.

The project intends to support work-integrated learning principles by enabling diverse graduate students to undertake tasks that reflect professional contexts. The assessment instrument will be collaboratively and formatively used, and teacher candidates will have agency in the process. The instrument will assess classroom teaching practice competencies, selected based on validity and psychometric fit. The assessment sources will be varied, including mentors, clinical specialists, students, self-assessments, coursework, and more.

The revised assessment instrument will be mapped back to AITSL Standards equivalents and produce a learner profile, ensuring that it meets rigorous criterion-referenced assessment standards. The project intends to identify recognisable competencies, such as effective learning experiences planning, implementing inclusive teaching strategies, providing constructive feedback, creating a safe and respectful learning environment, and more.

Overall, the project aims to develop a comprehensive, reliable, and valid assessment instrument that enables teacher candidates to demonstrate and evidence their competencies and skills effectively. The project aligns with work-integrated learning principles and supports the development of a graduate teacher profile that highlights sought-after teaching competencies.
