Reassessment

In line with the University policy on reassessment, students may be offered the opportunity for reassessment if failure of the subject significantly impacts course progression. Where reassessment is not possible in a subject, this will be noted in the subject’s LMS.

The following policy applies to reassessment (ref Section 4.82 – 4.86 of the Assessment and Results Policy [MPF1326]).

  • Reassessment will only be offered as a second attempt at passing a subject if a borderline failure in a single subject (other than a research project or thesis) has a significant impact on the student’s progression through their course.
  • A borderline failure is usually a mark of 45% or more, however this threshold may be reduced to 40% where failure may have a significant impact on course progression.
  • The Board of Examiners determines the form of reassessment to be offered to students.
  • A student who has been offered reassessment can only be awarded a maximum mark of 50% (pass grade).

For subjects with a placement component, reassessment may be possible where a student’s performance has been deemed unsatisfactory, at the discretion of the placement coordinator and the Board of Examiners.

Per Section 5.6 of the Assessment and Results Policy [MPF1326], the placement coordinator may:

  • Approve an alternative placement opportunity for the student; or
  • Terminate the placement;
  • Recommend a fail grade for the placement/subject
