Master of Psychology (Educational & Developmental) | Research Conference 2024

On Tuesday 15 October, the Learning Intervention Academic Group held the Educational and Developmental Psychology Masters Research Conference. Students enrolled in the Master of Psychology (Educational & Developmental) program presented their masters research to their classmates and supervisors at the Faculty of Education.

Professor Jim Watterston, Dean of the Faculty of Education opened the conference and shared insights about his first job as a teacher in a rural Indigenous classroom in Western Australia, how he felt under-skilled with respect to working with students with learning difficulties and changes in the education landscape during his 40-year career.

Thirty students presented their research findings on variety of topics in educational psychology. Some students chose topics in learning difficulties, mental health and wellbeing, as well as teacher led programs and strategies. Other student’s research focused on diversity with topics on cultural issues, gender and neurodiversity. There were also presentations intersecting education with arts and culture through gaming, film and sport.

Learning Intervention staff members supported the students throughout the day. Prof Kate Reynolds and Dr Chelsea Hyde presented closing remarks.

Dr Chelsea Hyde spoke the quality of topics and collaboration from students: “the presentations today were a representation of the scientist practitioner model in action, highlighting the importance of translating research into practice.”

Congratulations to all M Psych (Ed&Dev) students for their hard work in presenting an array of wide research!

The LI group thanks current and past research supervisors. Without their support, help and expertise, our students would not be able to achieve such terrific and worthy research outcomes.
