SACE Learner Profile

The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Learner Profile Project aims to develop a valid and reliable assessment system that provides information about students' capabilities, in addition to their academic performance, at a granular level that tertiary institutions and students find useful for matching students to post-school opportunities. The system is intended to provide valuable information about student capabilities that is different from and additional to that provided by SACE study scores.

Melbourne Metrics is working with SACE to address potential risks in this type of assessment, such as the bias of assessment towards knowledge rather than competence, in order to develop assessments that are more reliable and precise. Some features of this intended project include training teachers to think differently about their students' abilities, exploring the feasibility of generating robust assessments, and gathering data on the quality of opportunities to observe learners displaying competence in the SACE learning program.

The benefits of the project are intended to extend to learners, teachers, and education as a whole. The assessment system that Melbourne Metrics is developing with SACE is intended to provide teachers and learners with valuable insights into their capabilities and opportunities for development. The system is also intended to help teachers better understand their students and provide them with more targeted feedback. Ultimately, the project aims to provide a system that supports the matching of students to post-school opportunities, contributing to more effective and equitable education opportunities and development for all learners.
