BMX for Life

The BMX for Life project seeks to understand how BMX riding can contribute to a person’s personal and social wellbeing as well as creativity.

The BMX for Life project is grounded in a powerful belief: that BMX riding has the potential to support mental health, spark creativity, and foster a deep sense of belonging for people of all ages. Whether someone is riding for the first time, returning to the sport, or building trails with their local crew, BMX offers a space to feel connected, capable, and creatively engaged.

This first stage of the project set out to explore how BMX makes a difference in people’s lives—especially for those who may feel left out of traditional sports, school systems, or community spaces. It highlights how riding and trail-building can help people feel more confident, more creative, and more connected to others.

BMX for Life is also about inclusion. It recognises the strength of BMX communities and the importance of making those spaces welcoming and accessible to everyone—regardless of age, background, or experience. By learning from riders’ stories and lived experiences, this project builds a foundation of knowledge to support BMX-based programs that promote wellbeing and encourage broader participation.
