Project Details

The Assessment Research Centre, together with the University of the Philippines, has established the Assessment Curriculum and Technology Research Centre (ACTRC) as a joint research centre based in Quezon City, Philippines. Supported by the Australian Government, the ACTRC advises and informs an ambitious reform of the Philippine system of education through innovative curriculum, assessment and technology research and implementation.

The ACTRC plays an important transformative and capacity building role on the ground in the Philippines. Core competencies of the Centre include:

  • comparative and curriculum research and evaluation;
  • development of student achievement tests across learning areas;
  • reporting and dissemination;
  • survey design and implementation;
  • professional learning and training; and,
  • measurement across cross-cultural and multiple language student populations.

The ACTRC has multiple, significant projects and activities underway in the Philippines including a large scale K-12 curriculum review in partnership with the Philippines Department of Education, and studies tracking progress of students across specific learning areas and contexts, including remote and highly disadvantaged communities.

ACTRC also supports the Philippines Department of Education with large scale assessments including the Programme of International Student Assessment (PISA), Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) assessment program.
