Professor Therese N. Hopfenbeck appointed Chair of OECD PISA 2029 Questionnaire Expert Group
Professor Therese N. Hopfenbeck, Director of the Assessment & Evaluation Research Centre (AERC) at the University of Melbourne, has been appointed Chair of the PISA 2029 Questionnaire Expert Group by the OECD and ACER.

PISA 2029 represents a significant development in international educational assessment, introducing for the first time a dedicated framework for Media and Artificial Intelligence Literacy, measuring how 15-year-old students across participating countries understand and critically engage with AI systems and media environments.
Professor Hopfenbeck chaired the group’s inaugural meeting in Brussels in May 2026, with experts from Singapore, Finland, the US, Australia, the UK, and France. The expert group will advise the development of the survey and the conceptual and methodological framework that will underpin this new domain across more than 100 PISA-participating countries.
Professor Hopfenbeck said in a statement that she is delighted to have been asked to chair the committee and is looking forward to working with the international experts, OECD and ACER over the next five years. PISA was first launched in 2000, and will provide trend data not only on achievement but also on students' approaches to learning. With the new framework on AI, the study will provide evidence that can inform policy and practice to improve learning across the globe.
