AERC staff winning multiple faculty awards
AERC has been acknowledged with three awards at the 2025 Faculty of Education Awards Evening on Tuesday 24th June 2025.
FoE Award for Excellence in Graduate Researcher Supervision
Recipient: Professor Janet Clinton
Professor Janet Clinton exemplifies an inspirational approach in supervising Graduate Researchers (GRs) through her genuine care and thoughtful feedback that encourages them to strive for excellence. Since 2015, Janet has successfully supervised eleven doctoral candidates at the University of Melbourne and is currently the primary supervisor for four GRs.
FoE Award for Excellence in Mid-Career Research Achievements
Recipient: Dr Emma Carter
Dr. Emma Carter has made an exceptional impact in educational research since joining AERC as a McKenzie Research Fellow in 2024. In just 14 months, she has established herself as a rising star in understanding educational quality in developing countries.
Dr. Carter's research on structural and process quality in secondary education using the World Bank's Teach Secondary tool has already yielded impressive results. She has published three peer-reviewed articles—two as first author—with three additional manuscripts in final review stages. Her publication in Child and Adolescent Mental Health highlights the crucial role of student voices in mental health interventions, demonstrating her commitment to inclusive research approaches.
FoE Award for Professional Excellence and Innovation
Recipient: 2024 FoE Research Conference Team (Dr Bella Blaher, Associate Professor Victoria Millar, Sandra Pereira, Amy Yip, Jan Seesod, Stefanie Mallow, Nadishka Weerasuriya, Vincent Liang, Alison Morias, Sijing Zhou, Laura Smith)
Laura Smith and Vincent Liang were members of the 2024 FoE Research Conference Team, led by Associate Professor Victoria Millar, and played a key role in organising the 2024 Graduate Research Showcase on 22 October 2024. Designed to complement the Faculty’s annual conference, this event provided Graduate Researchers (GRs) with a valuable opportunity to present their research. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the success and impact of the initiative.
