AERC Hosts: Prof. Esther Care "Propositions, Contextuatlisation and Learning Progressions".

AERC was delighted to have Prof. Esther Care, Honorary Professorial Fellow, visit on 2 October 2024, where she spoke to staff about her current work in East Africa and the ALiVE project.

What happens next when the assessment driver works? The visibility of generic skills in nations’ educational aspirations for their youth is a worldwide phenomenon. This overview brought together the evidence of the globalisation of the phenomenon. However, how these aspirations are to be realised is a lot less visible. The obstacles faced by low to middle income nations in acting on the aspirations are many. The obstacles are viewed from the perspectives of characteristics of the generic skills themselves, contextualisation issues, and standards. The back story picks up on how collaborative efforts across countries enhances within-country shift in education systems.
