New publication by AERC researchers
AERC proudly celebrates the publication of a journal article co-authored by Dr Samantha-Kaye Johnston, A/Prof Joshua McGrane, and Prof Therese N. Hopfenbeck, together with international collaborators.
Gamlem, S. M., Johnston, S-K., Moltudal, S., McGrane, J., & Hopfenbeck, T. N. (2026). Generative AI in initial teacher education: Exploring the alignment of perceptions and experiences of pre-service teachers and their teacher educators. Teaching and Teacher Education, 172(105382). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tate.2026.105382
The study shows that while both pre-service teachers and teacher educators recognise GenAI’s educational potential, differing levels of experience and concerns about ethics and competence highlight the need for structured AI literacy development and institutional support in teacher education.
The first author of the article, Prof Siv Therese Måseidvåg Gamlem, is an Honorary Fellow of the Assessment and Evaluation Research Centre (AERC) and will be visiting Melbourne later this February.
