New book chapter by AERC's A/Prof Joshua McGrane
Finally! The long and awaited book is here! 15 years since the 4th edition of the Educational Measurement was published, the fifth edition of Educational Measurement, produced by the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), has been published by Oxford University Press.
AERC is proud to celebrate Deputy Director A/Prof Joshua McGrane, who has co-authored Chapter 21: On the Nature of Measurement, together with Prof Derek Briggs, Associate Dean for Faculty and Director of the Center for Assessment Design Research and Evaluation (CADRE), University of Colorado Boulder and A/Prof Andrew Maul, University of California, Santa Barbara.
If you are interested in deep knowledge of how educational measurement can be considered as a special case of measurement in the psychological and physical sciences, this chapter and book is for you. The authors offer different perspectives from the philosophy of science and introduce a new framework for understanding measurement, namely theory, instrumentation, scales and units, and modelling. Essential reading for everyone who would like to understand the foundations for measurement, assessments, and evaluations. The book is edited by Linda L. Cook and Mary J. Pitoniak.
