Native plant garden grand opening
On March 27, 2025, the Native Plant Garden was officially opened with an event hosted for staff! Dean Marek Tesar from the Faculty of Education offered inspirational words for learning about sustainability in the garden by reflecting on the social and ecological importance of plants on the Australian continent. Staff enjoyed tea, scones and biscuits as we shared stories of teaching practice and gardening while interacting with over 30 species of plants!
Some notes about the delicious food:
- The tea and scones were from our very own Stovetop where friendly staff have been supporting the Faculty of Education to host events with delicious food for years!
- The jams were sourced from Bakarindi Bush Foods, an ‘Aboriginal owned and operated not-for-profit business under the Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation in Townsend, New South Wales. Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation aims to use Bakarindi Bush Foods as an educational tool of native plants and uses for local Aboriginal children and youth.’
- The biscuits were sourced from Dreamtime Tuka, a majority owned Aboriginal company, where Founder and CEO Herb Smith, a proud Wiradjuri man and Aboriginal Elder has ‘always believed in the power of good food and good stories to bring people together.’
