Project Details
This study aims to document effective teaching strategies in reading, writing speaking and listening in Victorian early childhood centres and primary schools. The research, funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET), will involve the design of a Literacy Teaching Resource (LTR) which will include a developmental framework of literacy mapping pivotal stages of language and literacy development from Birth to the end of primary school (Year 6). Related web-based written materials and video vignettes of practice which elaborate on and illustrate the language and literacy demands at these key stages will be developed.
The LTR will provide early childhood and primary school educators with specific insights into linguistic content and pedagogical knowledge required for effective language and literacy teaching. Interactions between children/students and teachers, the selection and use of teaching resources and planning documentation to guide instruction will be investigated primarily through video recorded observation and individual interviews with teachers.
