The University of Melbourne has been ranked 15 globally and number one in Australia for Education in the 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.

“At the Faculty of Education, we are proud to be shaping the future of education, locally and globally. This recognition is a powerful affirmation of the extraordinary work of our community. To be ranked 15th in the world and #1 in Australia for Education reflects not only our global impact, but our deep commitment to equity, innovation and excellence in teaching and research,” said Professor Marek Tesar, Dean, Faculty of Education.

The University has ranked in the top 20 globally in three broad subject areas and in the top 50 for the remaining two.

The University of Melbourne’s Interim Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis AC said the results reflected the University’s commitment to excellence across all disciplines and its standing among the world’s leading universities.

“These rankings are a testament to our staff members and their dedication to transformational research and exceptional education. The University of Melbourne’s continued strong performance in these global rankings show that our students have access to subjects and scholars who are considered among the world’s best,” Professor Davis said.

Institutions are evaluated on several key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact.

The University of Melbourne is the only Australian university ranked in the top 50 across all five broad subject areas in 2026 and leads nationally in 22 of the narrow subjects.
