University of Melbourne #1 in Australia for Education in 2025 QS Subject Rankings

The University of Melbourne has again ranked number one in Australia for Education and Training in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject and is 16th in the world.
Professor Marek Tesar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, said: "We are proud to maintain our position as the top-ranked university for education in Australia and the Oceania region, and to be recognised among the world's best at number 16 globally. This achievement reflects the dedication of our talented staff and students, the quality and impact of our research, and our world-class reputation.”
The University is also ranked in the top 100 globally for all its 52 narrow subject areas, with 42 - the highest number of subjects for an Australian university - ranked in the top 50, demonstrating the hallmark breadth and depth of the Melbourne curriculum.
University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Professor Emma Johnston said these rankings are a key benchmark for academic excellence worldwide.
"These rankings reflect our commitment to academic excellence and the invaluable contributions of our staff, who teach a diverse range of subjects across our nine faculties."
“Our students can be confident that they will gain valuable skills in our classrooms, labs, and lecture theatres that will prepare them well for their future careers."
"These global subject rankings not only reflect our strengths but also provide a valuable measure to inform continuous improvement."
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings evaluate universities across five broad subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Management, and the individual subjects within these subject areas.
Institutions are assessed on several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.
The University of Melbourne is the only Australian university to have ranked in the top 50 in all broad subject areas in 2025.
