2026 Student and Alumni Awards
2026 Student and Alumni Awards
The Faculty of Education celebrated the outstanding achievements of students, graduates and alumni at the 2026 Student Awards Ceremony on Thursday 28 May, recognising excellence, dedication and the significant contributions our community continues to make across education, research and leadership.
This year 62 recipients were recognised across 66 awards, scholarships and prizes, highlighting the breadth of talent, commitment and impact within the Faculty. The ceremony celebrated leadership, innovation, service and the pursuit of positive change in education and beyond.
The evening was made especially memorable by the personal reflections shared by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Gregor Kennedy, whose moving remarks about being raised in a family of teachers, and the profound influence of his mother, offered a powerful reminder of the enduring impact educators have across generations.
A particular highlight was the warm and engaging presentation of awards by Emeritus Professor Kwong Lee Dow AO AM, whose humour and genuine celebration of each recipient brought a special energy to the occasion.
Guests were also privileged to listen to a beautiful piece of live music performed by talented flautist Sarah McDiarmid, recipient of the Manuel Gelman Award for Teaching Excellence (Music), adding to the sense of celebration.
Among those recognised was Alumni Early-Career Award recipient Rex Sutton. Through their leadership, innovation and commitment to equity, Rex has created a music program that enriches student learning, strengthens community engagement, and sets a benchmark for educational excellence.
The Faculty extends its sincere thanks to our donors and sponsors whose generosity and support make these awards possible.
The evening showcased a community united by a shared commitment to education and a belief in its power to create positive change.
