New Metrics Research-Practice Partnership wins 2025 ACEL Leadership Award

Melbourne Metrics is delighted to announce that the New Metrics research-practice partnership has been named a recipient of the 2025 Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) Leadership Award.

Since its inception in 2020, New Metrics has brought together schools across systems and sectors—spanning primary and secondary, metropolitan and rural, and both Australian and New Zealand contexts—to reimagine how learner success is defined, assessed, and recognised.

In partnership with the University team, these schools have co-developed a new educational architecture for recognising complex competencies such as agency in learning, active citizenship, and collaboration. This deeply collaborative network, grounded in research and shaped by practice, ensures the work remains both locally relevant and systemically significant—key factors in its national recognition.

“We are proud to work alongside 41 current partner schools who continue to lead this work,” said Angela Pollock, Director of Research-Practice Partnerships at Melbourne Metrics. “Their leadership and commitment are central to the momentum and impact of New Metrics.”

The ACEL Leadership Award honours exceptional contributions to educational leadership in Australia. This recognition reflects the shared leadership at the heart of New Metrics: school leaders designing the conditions for next-generation learning, teachers shifting pedagogy in meaningful ways, and a network committed to redefining what counts in learning.

Melbourne Metrics also acknowledges the broader community of educators, researchers, and system leaders whose contributions have shaped and strengthened this work over the past five years.

“We thank ACEL for this honour and look forward to celebrating with our peers and partners at the 2025 ACEL National Conference,” said Angela.

Congratulations to all involved—this award is a testament to your vision, dedication, and collaborative spirit.
