After years in academia, Zachary found renewed meaning and confidence through a supported transition into teaching – a career that brings him fulfillment and a sense of purpose.
After years in academia, Dr Zachary Fehily knew he wanted a change, but he needed to find a new career pathway that made sense both professionally and financially.
“Studying the Master of Teaching (Secondary) Internship has allowed me to make a late career change from academia to a teaching setting,” he says.
The internship model made the transition viable. Access to Commonwealth Supported Places, scholarships, and paid school-based work enabled Zac to retrain without sacrificing financial stability.
Zac also valued how quickly the internship immerses future teachers in real practice. The combination of hands-on experience and targeted university support allowed him to build his skills and gain confidence as a teacher.
“You learn so much on the job so quickly that you really do feel prepared to jump into teaching straightaway,” he explains. “After two years, you’ll be a fully qualified teacher ready to work.”
Early on, Zac already knew he had made the right choice. He’s found it immensely rewarding to watch his students learn and develop over the course of each term.
“It’s been amazing to see students who were disengaged at the start of the term now rushing to the front of the class to show me their homework.”.
By becoming a teacher, Zac has been able to share his passion for maths and physics with young people, inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals and making a lasting impact through his work.
