CWS recipients of the 2024 FoE Excellence Awards
We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Centre staff, Professor Nikki Rickard, Associate Professor Gavin Slemp, and Dr. Lara Mossman, for their outstanding achievements in being awarded the 2024 FoE Excellence Awards in the following categories:
- Professor Nikki Rickard was honored for Mentor Excellence. Nikki's profound impact on a wide range of individuals through her formal and informal mentorship has been exemplary. From graduate research students to colleagues at all career levels, many have benefited from Nikki's extensive experience and sage guidance throughout their professional journeys. Her mentorship has inspired others to lead with clarity, conviction, and compassion.
- Associate Professor Gavin Slemp was recognized for Excellence in Graduate Researcher Supervision. Gavin's dedication to mentoring graduate research students is well-known, as he consistently guides them to achieve exceptional research outcomes, including timely completions, top-tier publications, impactful research, and successful post-PhD employment. His contributions to graduate research environments are extensive, including roles as Coordinator of Graduate Research for the Faculty of Education and oversight of the Centre for Wellbeing Science's graduate research students. Additionally, his development of tutorial videos on systematic review and meta-analysis has benefited students university-wide.
- Dr. Lara Mossman and her team, including Phil Tudor, Dr. Stanley Koh, Jeni Rasche, and Sara Nelson, were awarded for Professional Excellence and Innovation. Lara's design and development of the Subject Staffing Template, in collaboration with staff and the People Planning and Community committee, has resulted in a significant improvement in the Faculty's ability to record, resource, and plan for teaching activities. This vision and determination has significantly improved the decision-making possibilities at the Faculty in relation to teaching load and staffing. It has contributed already to the improved ability to identify existing staff who have capacity to teach and therefore reduce our reliance on casual engagements in the first instance.
Their tireless dedication to research, teaching, and service has not only distinguished them individually but has also significantly enhanced the reputation and prestige of our institution, the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne.
Together, their collective efforts have not only elevated the profile of the Faculty of Education but have also enriched the field of education at large. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the passion, expertise, and dedication they bring to our Centre and the broader educational community. Their exemplary work serves as a source of inspiration for us all, and we look forward to witnessing their continued impact and success in the years to come.
