Creating events


This page details how you can add event items to the Melbourne Graduate School of Education website.

Upcoming events are listed on the /news_and_activities/events page.

Once the event date has past the event will automatically move to the /news_and_activities/events/previous-events page.

Where an event is 'tagged' as being hosted by either CPP, CVEP or YRC reserach centres, the event wil also be listed on the centre's home page and past events page once the event date has past.

Before you begin: If you are creating a Dean's Lecture Series event you may wish to create a profile for the speaker in the profiles system first (or find existing profile for the speaker)

Step 1 - Create Single calendar event Asset

  1. Open the Edit+ interface
  2. Click on 'New' button in the top menu to open the Asset Creation Wizard.
  3. Click on 'Events' in the left hand menu.
  4. Click on 'Single Calendar Event'.

Step 2 - Add intial details and save asset

The Single Calendar event pane should now be open.

  1. Enter the event details, leave 'Show in menu?' setting as Yes.
  2. Click on 'Set New Location', to choose the location to save the item.

The Asset Finder pane should open

  1. Navigate to and select the MGSE/News and activities/Events/Event folder
  2. Click the 'Select' button at the bottom right of the Asset Finder.

You will be returned to the Single Calendar event pane

  1. Click the 'Create' button at the bottom right of the Single Calendar event pane.

You should be presented with the following screen

  1. Click the 'Edit' button.

Step 3 - add content

  1. Click on 'Content' tab
  2. Add the event description
  3. Click 'Save' button at top right hand corner

Step 4 - open metadata tab

Your new events Asset screen should be displayed

  1. Click on 'Metatdata' tab.

Step 7 - Make asset live and recache associated pages

  1. Click on 'Details' tab to return to the asset details screen.
  2. Make the the asset live
    1. Choose "Approve and Make Live" from Status section 'Change?' drop down
    2. Click 'Save' button at top right hand corner
  3. Recache events page by visiting this link
  4. If the even is a research centre sponsored event, recache the Research centre's home page and events page using the /_recache at the end of the URL
  5. IMPORTANT: don't forget to validate the HTML of the pages the event is listed on and the event page itself W3C HTML validator.
