Master of Teaching – Place Based Elective (International)

The Place-Based Elective (International) is a subject designed for Master of Teaching students interested in gaining experience in an international setting. Students complete an internship of 2-3 weeks at an educational institution through either a staff-guided option or an independent internship.

Students experience the life of an educational institution in another country through full immersion in day-to-day activities. Working alongside local educators or mentors, they contribute to the various learning programs and activities.

The written component of the subject provides students with opportunities to reflect upon the experiences, challenges and opportunities for teaching and learning in an international setting.

Availability

The subject is available to students from all streams of the Master of Teaching. However, within certain streams there are different elective subject requirements that need to be considered.

Students are required to fund the trip independently, however, they may be eligible to apply for a Melbourne Global Scholars Award.

Please note that there is a selection process and spaces are limited.

Timeframes

MGSE has allocated three weeks in September for Master of Teaching students to participate in an overseas internship. During this time, students may travel to one of the pre-approved destinations to complete the program.

Students are free to negotiate a period outside the allocated time as long as it does not interfere with any other academic commitments.
