To be recognised as a current student, you must enrol at the beginning of your course and then re-enrol every year for the duration of your course

Enrolling in the Master of Teaching

You will receive a welcome email from the Dean of the Faculty of Education, containing the details of your offer and your student ID number, which you need to accept your offer and enrol.

Once you receive the email from the Dean, follow the instructions below to accept your offer and complete your enrolment.

Please read all of the information on this page before you start and note important dates in your diary.

Please note you cannot accept your offer and enrol until you receive your welcome email containing your student ID.

  • Step 1: Accepting your offer

    To accept your offer and enrol, visit get started at Melbourne.

    Here you need to:

    1. activate your account
    2. accept your offer
    3. enrol in your first year subjects (semester 1 and 2).

    Please note: if you haven't accepted your offer and enrolled by the offer lapse date, your place in the course will lapse.

    You may be required to supply a course completion statement prior to the start of semester. If this applies to you, you will be notified by email.

    If you are unable to commence this course the intake you are offered, you can:

  • Step 2: Arrange your Working with Children Check

    You will need to supply a copy of your Working with Children Check (WWCC) or WWCC application receipt before you can commence the Master of Teaching. This is a mandatory requirement across Victoria.

  • Step 3: Submit your placement information form

    Once you have activated your University of Melbourne Account via step 1 above you will be able to access our SONIA placement platform using your single sign-in account.

    SONIA Online login

    Once logged in, select the Forms tab and you will see a box for the Placement Information Form – select the red ‘edit’ button on the top right to commence the form. It can take a few days after account activation for the form to go live in your account. If you have not received the form after a week please contact us.

    Completion of this form is a compulsory part of your enrolment, and a placement search will not commence until this form is submitted.

  • Step 4: Attend your course induction day

    Course induction dates for students commencing the Master of Teaching in 2022 are:

    • Master of Teaching (Secondary) - Monday 20 February
    • Master of Teaching (Primary) - Tuesday 21 February
    • Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) - Monday 20 February
    • Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) - Tuesday 21 February

    It is mandatory for students to attend their Induction Day. Details of the Induction Day will be emailed to students in early February. If you won't be in Australia at this time, we have alternative arrangements in place.

  • Step 5: Complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test (LANTITE)

    All students enrolling in an initial teacher education course must sit and pass the national Literacy and Numeracy Test (LANTITE).

    The Faculty of Education requires all Master of Teaching students (including Early Childhood) to complete the LANTITE within their first year of study (this includes part time students). Learn more about the LANTITE online.

Enrolling in other professional programs

Congratulations on receiving an offer! Your offer letter contains the details of your offer, fee type, advanced standing and student IID number, which you will need to accept your offer and enrol. Please read your offer letter carefully.

There are two types of offers conditional and unconditional. An unconditional offer means that you can accept and enrol following the steps below.  If you receive a conditional offer you’ll need to satisfy your conditions before you can accept and enrol. There will be instructions outlined in your offer letter to assist you in satisfying your conditions.

  • Step 1: Accepting your offer

    To accept your offer and enrol, visit get started at Melbourne.

    Here you need to:

    1. Activate your account (make sure you save your user name and password)
    2. Accept your offer
    3. Enrol in your subjects (semester 1 and 2).  You can only enrol in subjects offered in the current year. See Subject Enrolment for more information.
    4. You can also order your student card and check key University dates.

    Please note: if you haven't accepted your offer and enrolled by the offer lapse date, your place in the course will lapse.

    If you are unable commence your course in the intake you are offered, you can:

  • Step 2: Class registration

    Once you have enrolled in subjects you will be asked to register in classes or create a timetable. Most of our subjects run intensively over irregular week patterns, some in school holidays and some after hours. Subjects that are offered intensively (these have study periods which are months e.g. February or July) are usually only available for registration approximately one month prior to the class commencing. Some classes (where there is no choice of time(s) on offer) may have auto-registration which means you will be automatically allocated a class.   • Step 3: Understanding your fees

    Your fee type is listed in your offer letter. You may enter on an;

    Not all fee types are available in all programs. You’ll also need to consider the Student Services and Amenities Fee plus additional expenses such as course materials and parking.

    Eligible domestic students may apply to defer their fees through HECS- HELP or FEE-HELP.  If you are eligible and wish to defer all of your student contribution amounts using HECS-HELP, you must fill out a request form when you enrol.

Leave of Absence

Unexpected things sometimes happen in life, or maybe you have an itch to travel and see the world before knuckling down. If you wish to take time off from the course you're currently enrolled in, you may be able to apply for a Leave of Absence.

As a student you may request a Leave of Absence for up to 12 months. This will mean that your course is put on hold for you to complete after you've returned from your leave. However, you are not permitted to take this leave during the first six months of your course or the final month of your course. Learn more

Withdraw from your Course

Course withdrawal refers to the process of permanently withdrawing yourself from your course (degree). If you would like to resume your studies in the discontinued course in the future, you will need to reapply. Learn more

Advanced standing

You are automatically assessed for Advanced Standing (Credit or Recognised Prior Learning) when you apply to study with us. Any credit you are awarded will be outlined in your offer letter. If you are applying for the 100 point Master of Education, Master of TESOL or Master of Modern Languages you are not required to submit a separate application for advanced standing.

Reenrolment

You must enrol at the beginning of your course and then re-enrol every year for the duration of your course. Reenrolment generally opens in October for the following year. Remember to check your student email so you don’t miss the reminder. Learn more
