Specific Mathematics Assessments that Reveal Thinking

A 'smart-test' is an assessment that reveals thinking about a specific topic in mathematics. These short tests are accessed through an intelligent on-line environment. They provide teachers with an informative diagnosis of each students' mathematical understanding, based on extensive research.

Research questions

The smart-tests system takes the results of decades of research into students' mathematical thinking and conceptual development and puts it into the hands of teachers. Ongoing research is investigating (i) student learning trajectories in specific mathematics topics, (ii) how teachers use this formative assessment to improve their teaching, (iii) how using smart-tests improves their mathematical pedagogical content knowledge and (iv) the multiple design issues that arise in creating an intelligent online assessment.
