Dr Jessica Gerrard awarded ASSA Early Career Award

University House hosted a luncheon on Tuesday 22 November to celebrate our Dr Jessica Gerrard, who received the Australian Academy of Social Sciences (ASSA) Early Career Award (Panel A) citation.

The luncheon was attended by a range Victorian fellows of the Academy, including Professor Leon Mann, Academy Past-President, and Professor Peter McPhee, a former Provost of the University of Melbourne, along with Professor Lesley Farrell, Associate Dean Research here at the Graduate School.

A lecturer at the University, Jessica spoke about her research in historical sociology and education, including her project on sellers of the Big Issue, which was the focus of her McKenzie Fellowship, 2012-2015.

The ASSA makes a small number of awards each year to early career researchers who have demonstrated excellence in one or more branches of the social sciences. This process is by nomination, and is highly competitive and prestigious.

Congratulations again Jessica!
