Reflections on the ‘Basic Leadership Development Course’ in Myanmar
Date: Thursday 3 October 2013
Time: 1pm – 2pm
Venue: Level 7 meeting room, 100 Leicester St
Kira Clarke will discuss her experiences in a week long Basic Leadership Development Course (BLDC) run by the Asia South Pacific Basic Adult Education Association (ASPBAE). The BLDC took place in Yangon in Myanmar in early September 2013 and included 26 participants from 14 countries across the Asia South Pacific region. Throughout the course participants engaged with learning around human rights, gender equality, education for sustainable development, principles of adult education, and youth leadership and advocacy platforms.
Participants from countries as diverse as Mongolia, Timor Leste, Sri Lanka and Nepal, came together to share their narratives of youth advocacy and to develop a common vision for transformative education for young people in our region.
In this seminar Kira will provide an overview of both the BLDC program and her reflections on the deep cultural learning she experienced in this multilingual, multicultural, multiethnic and multinational learning community.
