No fixed address - Contemporary Indigenous Music (Performance and discussion)

Arts Ed Colloquium Series 2018

Contemporary Indigenous Music (Performance and discussion)

...all young Australians will be given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, their significance for Australia and the impact these have had, and continue to have, on our world.
ACARA, 2011, p.22

Music education is a unique position to deliver on this aim. Contemporary Indigenous music communicates powerfully the stories and aspirations and dreams of Indigenous Australians. It serves as a vehicle for Indigenous communities to address critical social issues, such as the Stolen Generation and land rights. Contemporary Indigenous music is culturally rich, musically significant and is influential in shaping broader Australian popular music. It is in recognition of this contribution that MGSE music education is proud to invite No Fixed Address who will perform their music and take part in a Q&A session.

The original band members Bart Willoughby (drums, vocals), Ricky Harrison (rhythm guitar, vocals), Les Graham (lead guitar) and John Miller (bass) have reformed and are touring the country with plans to record a new album. The colloquium will be broadcast by 3CR.
