Academic recruitment update
As we have indicated previously, we are in the process of recruiting senior academic staff to continue the growth plans that we commenced in late 2019, which were put on hold in 2020. A fortnightly status report will be published in MGSE News to keep all staff informed of and involved, wherever possible, in this important recruiting activity.
To date, we have been engaging key academics to determine the exact nature of the appointments, where they are best situated (discipline wise) and, of course, what level of appointment is now needed almost 24 months after our initial advertising campaign began.
We have confirmed the following continuing Teaching and Research roles are required and have commenced sourcing as follows:

Recruitment Process
All senior roles will be advertised for four weeks to ensure maximum sourcing opportunities and international reach. Typically, interviews will occur within 4 – 8 week period after the advertisements close, but this is also dependent on UAPC (University Appointment and Promotions Committee) approvals for D/E roles at both the shortlisting and appointment stages. These shortlists and appointments are assessed monthly at scheduled UAPC meetings and are an important component of all university senior appointments. We will align our dates with these meetings as much as we can.
In addition to the UAPC approval, where international candidates are appointed, employment visas and relocation arrangements will add further time to the start date of these appointments and, of course, we currently have border restrictions within which we are also working.
As the positions are advertised we will ensure that the links to the Position Description and advertisement are included on the MGSE Intranet site so that you can forward the role to your networks and contacts.
Staff Fixed Term Contracts
We have recently undertaken a recruitment exercise to fulfil our obligations in the 2018 Enterprise Agreement to convert casual staff who meet the eligibility criteria to fixed term periodic contracts. Not all casuals meet the criteria and this recruitment process was a targeted one aimed at those who met the criteria. As a result we expect to convert 4/5 casual staff members to fixed term contracts in the next week.
We are advertising for a number of Teaching Specialists, Fixed Term (12 months) Level B. These roles will be focused on the key areas where teaching gaps have been identified. The advertisement will be published this week and the advert open for 2 weeks. We are hopeful that other casual academics will apply for these fixed term roles and we can continue to covert more casual staff to more secure employment arrangements.
If you have any questions about the recruitment activity please contact Janet Clinton or Paula McAllister (Manager People & Culture).
