Staff updates

MGSE welcomed John Doolah as our new Teaching Specialist (Indigenous) this week. John is a Torres Strait Islander man who is currently finalising his PhD at the University of Newcastle. His dissertation examines the stories underlying the Torres Strait Islander migration myth: The Journey of the Sap/Bethey. John will be an incredible asset to the school with his depth of knowledge of the Torres Straits, and we look forwards to collaborating on methods to increase awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and languages at MGSE.

Dr Kapil Dev Regmi joined the Continuing Vocational and Educational Policy (CVEP) research hub within the Wellbeing, Policy and Pathways Academic Unit, as a senior lecturer in April 2021. Before joining MGSE, he was a Lecturer at the University of British Columbia, Canada. His research critically examines educational policy issues and agendas by using a range of theoretical lenses such as international political economy, sociology, critical theory and international development.

Academic Services

Academic Services has recently experienced an increase in recruitment activity as a result of the Professional Services Redesign (PSR) and staff members transitioning to new roles in the University. This week we welcomed Katherine van Loon as our new Manager, Accreditation and Curriculum. Katherine joins us from MSPACE where she was Manager, Academic Program. In welcoming Katherine to MGSE we also thank Leonie Benson for her leadership of the Accreditation and Curriculum team over the past two years and her continued support for the MTeach reaccreditation project. We would also like to send a warm thank you to Jane McManus for acting in the role for the past three months.
