Update on COVID-19

MGSE return to campus update

  • The University’s industry status has moved from ‘Heavily Restricted’ to ‘Restricted’. The Premier has re-iterated "if you can work from home you must work from home" and the University Return to Campus roadmap has been updated.
  • MGSE will have very limited on campus activity for the remainder of the year - only those who need to be on campus.
  • Extensive planning is underway for a COVIDSafe return to campus in 2021.
  • We know that under ‘COVID Normal’, the COVIDSafe principles of limiting density and movement, and promoting appropriate hygiene will still apply. This means that we will not be able to return all staff to the office full time and we will need to change the way that we use our spaces. Staff should expect that they will continue working from home for some portion of their week for the foreseeable future.

MGSE Staff Return to Campus survey

To inform our return to campus planning, all staff are invited to complete a quick survey. The planning team need an indication of how soon our staff would like to be working on campus, so they can prepare the buildings for a gradual, phased return of staff activity in 2021. The survey is not anonymous as the team need to know which spaces and/or teams will return, and in which order.

Congratulate students on completing their course

For this year's End of Year Celebration event, the Student Experience team will share a congratulatory video. All academic staff are invited to send a 5-10 second video congratulating students on successfully completing their studies, getting through this challenging year, and wishing them the best for their future careers. If you would like to contribute to the video please send an email to Taylor Eisen via mgse-experience@unimelb.edu.au.

New E-Reuse service

The University has refreshed its approach to unwanted electronic products like computers that are no longer needed. In keeping with our sustainability goals, the approach now focuses on reusing equipment within the University or donating to local charities. If products can't be used anymore, we've sourced a new recycling partner that responsibly processes this material in Australia.

So when you're able to come back onto campus, remember to declutter your office with the E-ReUse service. Collect your unwanted electronic products like cables, monitors or computers and submit a request on ServiceNow to have a Field Services agent come to your office to collect them.
