Dean's Report

COVIDSafe return to campus

Over the past few months the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us all in many ways as we made the rapid transition to working from home and now as we slowly emerge from our hibernation. During this time the University has been working assiduously to plan a safe and phased return to campus based on the latest government and health advice and has provided us with a Roadmap to guide our eventual return. We have established a Return to Campus section of our new intranet which will link to the latest updates from the University and also provide MGSE-specific information. We will all still be working from home for some time so I suggest you visit the intranet regularly and we will also keep you updated through MGSE-News.

Senior positions at MGSE

Stepping into leadership roles is a rewarding and important way to contribute to MGSE, to the wider University and beyond. We currently have two senior positions available: the newly created position of Assistant Dean, Indigenous and an existing vacancy for a Professoriate representative on MGSE’s Executive Committee. The Assistant Dean, Indigenous is a three-year appointment and the successful appointee will provide leadership and work strategically across all discipline areas at MGSE to build staff confidence and awareness, building relationships with external stakeholders and supporting Indigenous students. The role will also provide the oversight and initiative required for MGSE to implement, monitor and support the outcomes of our Divisional Indigenous Development Plan (DIDP). The Professoriate appointment will be for the rest of this year, and for 2021, as Professor John Polesel takes leave from 1 July before he retires at the end of the year. This is another excellent opportunity for a member of the Professoriate to contribute to the decision-making, oversight and future of MGSE.

I will be on medical leave from Friday 5 June until Monday 15 June and I thank our Deputy Dean, Professor Janet Clinton in advance for taking over the reins while I am away. I’m sure you will all assist Janet as required.
