As of 25 March 2020, the Australian Government has issued an overseas travel ban for all Australians. Australian citizens and permanent residents currently overseas who wish to return home should do so as soon as possible, while commercial options are still available. If you have recently travelled overseas or have had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 please take note of health advice and self-isolate for 14 days in line with advice from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Australian Government Department of Health.
As of 9pm (AEDT), Friday 20 March, only Australian citizens, residents and immediate family members can enter Australia from overseas. The University has been in contact with all staff on work-related trips (booked through UniTravel), graduate researchers and Study Abroad and Exchange students currently overseas.

University of Melbourne Influenza Program
The University's Influenza Vaccination Program runs until mid-May. All eligible participants are encouraged to book an appointment online to receive their free vaccination as soon as possible. Online appointments are available at a number of locations, including Carlton, Burnley, Parkville, Southbank and Werribee. Please read all the information on the program page before booking your appointment, including eligibility, how to book and frequently asked questions. Parkville locations have been centralised to the ground floor of the Law Building (106) – 185 Pelham St. Entrance via Barry St end. You will receive an email from Healthwatch confirming that the location for your booking has changed.
Cancellations/Reschedule If you are not able to attend or need to reschedule can you please do this from the cancellation link in your original confirmation email from Healthwatch.
This will then free up bookings to enable others to attend.
Flu Vaccination Guidance for Attendees In order to keep yourself, your family, colleagues and the flu vaccination team safe and healthy, we ask that you:
- not attend campus if you are required to self-isolate
- not attend campus or flu vaccination if you are sick or unwell
- observe social distancing during the program i.e. waiting, declaration and after
- only attend if you have registered
- attend only at the schedule time
- bring your own pen to complete documentation.
Free carparking to Flu Vaccination attendees
To support social distancing influenza vaccination participants (without exiting parking arrangements) will be provided free car parking at University Square car park. Free parking is subject to availability and parking spaces cannot be guaranteed. Reimbursements will not be provided for prepaid or paid casual parking.
- Upon arrival at the car park entrance boom gate, press the intercom and advise the traffic officer you are attending the Influenza Vaccination program.
- At the exit boom gate press the intercom and advise the traffic officer you are attending the Influenza Vaccination program.
- Do NOT make payment using casual parking payment systems

MGSE Excellence Awards - Staff nominations
The Melbourne Graduate School of Education will confer awards to staff in recognition of excellence in Engagement, Professional Staff, Research and Teaching in 2020. Nominations from MGSE staff are now open. Visit the MGSE Excellence Awards page to download the relevant nomination form.

MGSE Alumni Award
MGSE is committed to recognising alumni who have achieved excellence in their chosen field, and who have made a considerable contribution to the Graduate School, the University and their communities. MGSE will be awarding an Alumni for the first time in 2020. Nominations are now open, visit the MGSE Alumni Award page for more information.
Multifactor Authentication is coming to Office365, Themis and other apps
The rollout of Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is progressing with the new single sign-on screen (SSO) being deployed for the next group of applications from this week. MFA will help to protect your user account against cybercriminals when logging in to key University applications. You may have already experienced MFA when accessing online banking or government services.
The new SSO will be deployed for the following staff facing applications:
- Office 365
- Service Now
- Enterprise Risk Management System (ERMS)
- Oracle Identity Manager (OIM)
The first change staff will see is a new login page. The username and password fields will not be pre-filled, so users will need to type them in.
The next round of MFA activations to user accounts is scheduled to commence 15 April and staff will be notified by email in advance.
To be ready for MFA, we recommend that you to go to sso.unimelb.edu.au on your computer's web browser to opt-in for MFA. Detailed instructions are available on Knowledge Base article KB0021449 or on the unimelb.edu.au/cybersecurity website.

Software for Graduate Researchers and Students
Licenses for statistics software (SPSS & Stata), Adobe Creative Cloud and more software have been temporarily extended so that students and graduate researchers can access these tools on their personal devices.

Updates on available software
Temporary closure of 11 Barry Street front desk
In-person support at the 11 Barry Street front desk has closed until further notice. While the rest of 11 Barry Street remains occupied, the services offered by the front desk, including IT and facilities support, credit card and ID card services are now delivered by internal mail, online or by phone.
Instead of in-person support, please call 834 40888, option 2 (facilities), option 5 (other) to speak with reception staff.
Software available for personal devices
Many of the software licenses purchased by the University include provisions for installation on personal devices. Additionally, several vendors are providing additional licensing as part of their response to COVID-19. Some of the available software includes Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, Office 365 and Zoom. The Software Licensing team in the Service Centre has created a Yammer channel, 'Software at UniMelb' to publish up to date information as we receive it: please join this group to stay up to date. Open Access and COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for accelerated discovery and a more open model for sharing of research findings. Dimity Flanagan (Manager, Scholarly Communications, University of Melbourne) updates us on the Open Scholarship movement and its implications for this public health crisis.
Design and print department - business as usual
The University's internal Design and Print team are still running, and can offer you quality graphic design and printing (at cost). The Design and Print team in University Communications and Marketing are experts in their industry, producing award-winning, cutting-edge design. There is no charge for design or the management of the print process, and no mark-up on the print costs. An experienced team member will manage the design and printing process on your behalf, from concept/artwork to delivery of finished material. Applications for the 2020 UoM Excellence Awards - deadline extended
If you think you or your colleagues deserve recognition for exceptional work, you can nominate them for a University of Melbourne Excellence Award. The awards recognise outstanding achievements of academic and professional staff in the key areas of research, teaching, engagement, professional excellence and strategic priorities. Each award includes a trophy and a grant of up to $10,000. Applications close at 12pm on Monday 29 June and information about the awards is available on the Melbourne CSHE website. Green Impact 2020 has launched
As Green Impact is a location-based program, some actions will temporarily not be possible if working from home due to COVID-19. However, teams will still be able to complete some actions and begin to plan projects and actions for later in the year. More information and registration is available on the Green Impact page.
Making a change to your myki due to COVID-19 - for existing Myki card holders
Myki Commuter Club holders can pause their pass during the COVID-19 shutdown. By pausing your Myki Pass, any remaining travel days will be ready for you when you are ready to return using trains, trams and buses.
In order to pause a Myki Pass, PTV will need to block your existing card and send a new one which will be activated the next time it is touched on. Members can call PTV on 1800 800 007 so they can put this pause in place. Please note that the replacement card will be sent to the address on your account – in many cases, this may be a business address. PTV’s call centre team can assist with updating these address details.
Whilst PTV can arrange to have your Myki Pass paused, the University will continue to deduct payments for people who have nominated to pay via salary deductions.
