Capability Development is excited to be piloting two new modules for staff at UoM levels 3 to 6 in June, with a view to making the modules part of the regular development offering from August 2019 onwards.

We are seeking staff at UoM levels 3 to 6 – from within and outside the HR Community – to attend these pilot sessions:

  • Managing My Work: Monday 17 June, 9am – 1pm
  • Understanding Myself and Others: Tuesday 2 July, 9am – 1pm

Managing My Work

Target Audience:
The four-hour workshop is targeted at early to mid-career professionals (UOM levels 3 to 6).

Course Description:
Early to mid-career professionals at the University of Melbourne are often responsible for supporting a range of tasks and people. This course is designed to equip participants with tools for managing their work effectively and wisely.

How will this benefit participants:

  • Develop skills for prioritising tasks effectively
  • Understand your current utilisation of time and obstacles to better time management
  • Be equipped with practical tips and tools for organising your time
  • Understand how to overcome some of the common enemies of productivity

Course Facilitator: External facilitator from Winthink Consulting Pty Ltd.

Understanding Myself and Others

Date: Tuesday 2 July
Time: 9am – 1pm
Cost: $255 (includes a tailored DISC profile report)
Venue: Staff Development Centre, Level 7, Alan Gilbert Building

Target Audience:
The four-hour workshop is targeted at early to mid-career professionals (UOM levels 3 to 6).

Course Description:
Early to mid-career professionals at the University of Melbourne are often required to work closely with others to deliver set objectives. This course is designed to equip you to understand your own and others’ styles of working and communicating, and how to adjust your style to work more effectively with others.

How will this benefit participants:

  • Receive a tailored DISC profile report to help you understand your communication style
  • Increase your self-awareness regarding your work preferences and develop awareness of how your work preferences impact your interactions with others
  • Develop skills in modifying your actions as required to work well with others
  • Build skills in conflict resolution and collaboration
  • Develop techniques for providing and receiving feedback
  • Be equipped with practical tools and techniques for influencing others

Course Facilitator: The course will be facilitated by an external facilitator from Winthink Consulting Pty Ltd.


Digital Content Strategist

We welcome Karl Smith back to MGSE where he will take up the role of Digital Content Strategist. Karl will be working with the Communications Team over the next five months to develop a Digital Content and Governance Strategy and Implementation plan for MGSE’s website with a focus on lifting the research profile of MGSE across our digital channels.


Student Recruitment Officer (Domestic)

Chantelle Shaw has been appointed to the role of Student Recruitment Officer (Domestic). Chantelle has previously worked at Monash University in a variety of roles, including for their Education faculty in an admissions, events and student services focused role. She has also recently completed her Master of Marketing and Communications here at Melbourne and we are excited to have her join our team.

We are also pleased that Davey Reynolds will continue to support the Marketing & Recruitment team until mid-June. Davey has done a great job since he has been with us, from recruiting and onboarding our new ambassadors to successfully running key mid-year events/initiatives and setting us up well for Open Day. We thank Davey for his innovation and commitment to his work and for being such a great team player. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Davey once he returns to his course planning role.


Future Student Enquiries Officer

Paul Vassiliadis has been appointed to the role of Future Student Enquiries Officer in the Marketing and Recruitment team. Paul comes to us from Stop 1 where he has been working extensively with future students – answering email enquiries through the Nexus CRM, as well as face-to-face and phone enquiries. Paul is also currently completing his Master of Urban Planning here at Melbourne. Paul will commence with us next Monday 3 June so please join with me in making him feel welcome.

Thank you to Lucy Bond for her amazing work in the enquiries space. Stephen Everett has also been doing a great job as our casual enquiries/marketing support staff member and will continue to work casually with us moving into the future and assist Paul in his onboarding.


Hiring Manager EOIs now open for UoM Internship Program

The Students@Work team is inviting expressions of interest from University Hiring Managers looking to hire a Students@Work intern. This is a three month internship placement from August 2019 for anyone that would like to take an intern. This is also a great opportunity for any managers that have not previously hosted an intern and would like to experience the benefits of a three month placement.

Internships are approved by Chancellery Executive for exclusion from the FTE cap and comprehensive recruitment, selection and contract management support will be provided by the S@W team throughout June and July. Interns are all current UoM students looking for work experience within the University.

Managers interested in leveraging capability, specific skills and insight of UoM students are encouraged to read the information provided on the S@W page and submit their EOI form by Wednesday 12 June at 5.00pm.
