Refurbishment Project Update

Project update

The program focus for the fortnight has been work with Business Services on the construction program and timing. A construction schedule and approach will be finalised shortly, along with plans for any required decant of staff and graduate researchers. The project’s aim is to minimise disruption, which is being factored into the construction schedule.

Some staff and graduate researchers will be displaced as part of the works program, and alternative workstations will be made available for anyone affected in this way. Once arrangements for decant space has been finalised this will be clearly communicated to all staff and graduate researchers.

Timing of Project Works

In response to staff feedback, and as advised in previous bulletins, the construction program is planned for a period outside of peak teaching activities, to minimise the impact on teaching staff.

A construction program from mid-November through early January is anticipated, with works likely to occur in two traches across academic floors (mid-November to early-December, and early-December to early-January), and separate works to level 9 in January 2020. Availability of the refurbished floors for full re-occupancy by academic teams is therefore anticipated by early January 2020.

Assistance with preparing for relocation

Some individuals and teams will be relocated as part of the refurbishment program, and it is recognised that this will be disruptive to staff. The Project Team are available to answer queries, provide crates for relocating work items, and boxes for archiving or moving materials offsite. A frequent request to the team has been to manage confidential waste, which the project team can remove for disposal via the University’s confidential waste program.

The Project Team will shortly be arranging assistance for staff in the form of ‘pack up days’ for each academic team, but colleagues are welcome to contact us ahead of this with any queries or requests to mgse-sar@unimelb.edu.au.
