Australia–Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme (UA–DAAD)

The Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme is a joint initiative of Universities Australia (UA) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The scheme supports exchanges for researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at the University of Melbourne. Proposals must include an early career researcher. Melbourne applicants can request up to $AUD 25,000 to support travel over two years (maximum of $AUD 12,500 per year). DAAD will award German applicants up to EURO 16,000 over two years (maximum of EURO 8,000 per year).

Project grants, Collier Charitable Fund

The Collier Charitable Fund invites applications for its project grants. These support organisations and projects with the aim to build a better society. Funding support public educational purposes in Australia – note that grants must be used within Australia.

Grants range between AUD 5,000 and AUD 30,000. Projects should be completed within one year from the date of receipt of the grant

McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowships

The McKenzie Fellowship is one of the University’s most prestigious and highly competitive fellowships (with only 10 funded per year), which provides funding for a three-year appointment commencing at Level A.6 in the University salary band plus superannuation. Fellows will receive an additional $25,000 to be spent on project costs over the term of their Fellowship.

Applicants are judged on both the quality their achievements to date and on their ability to actively contribute to research renewal, including their capacity to build and contribute to inter-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary collaborations; and their capacity to add innovation and strength to research areas that are important and strategically aligned with university priorities.

MGSE employs an Expression of Interest round to ensure quality candidates have the appropriate support to complete full submission, please submit your MGSE McKenzie EOI here to progress your interest on or before Monday, 23rd July 2018.

To be considered for this Fellowship candidates will need to work closely with a senior academic from the Melbourne Graduate School of Education in developing your application to ensure it is competitive.

The McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowships Program aims to attract outstanding recent doctoral graduates in areas of research priority for the university and its faculties, and to recruit new researchers who have the potential to build and lead cross-disciplinary collaborative research activities inside and across faculties. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD no earlier than 1 January 2015 from a university other than UoM, and must not hold a fixed term or continuing appointment greater than 1 year at UoM.

MGSE Academic Staff ORCID rollout Announcement

Staff who do not have an ORCID will be signed up and directly assigned an ORCID by MERI Staff, by utilising staff email required for login and generate generic form passwords. These passwords can be changed later by the individual academic. During the sign-up process, ORCIDs will be linked to Minerva Profiles. ORCIDs will require to be linked to your email signature, instructions and templates will be provided.

This has been mandated by CADRe and endorsed by the Dean, this approach is the most effective for MGSE.

ORCID Training and support drop-in sessions will be run by the Library, providing advice on the benefits of ORCID, and linking to your existing Researcher ID, Scopus, and Web of Science profiles.

Get one-on-one support to build your ORCID – please contact MERI

The Education Library team & MERI will provide individual support to academic staff to get their ORCID profile ready to include in their email signature.

Staff will be on hand to help configure ORCID profiles and integrate data from Minerva Elements and other identifier systems such as Researcher ID, Scopus and Google Scholar.

Assistance with including your personal ORCID profile link in your email signature will also be available.

MGSE Research Assistants Available

A number of MGSE staff have indicated their desire and availability to work as Research Assistants on larger projects, in order to build capability within MGSE, we ask that you consider internal hires as priority where possible. Please contact MERI for further details.

If you are interested in making an application to any opportunity, please notify MERI at your earliest convenience. This applies to both lead (submitted through UoM) and non-lead proposals (those submitted through other institutions). This feeds in to the MGSE Submission Policy, and additionally allows MERI to provide the appropriate support for your application.

Please note that MGSE submission policy requires all proposals (internal and external) to be endorsed by the Dean, as Head of Department.

MERI close dates are set in advance of the close dates of the funding body (for submissions direct to sponsor) or the research innovation and commercialisation closing date (usually about a week).

If you are in a situation where you think you will be unable to make the MERI close date, please contact MERI and let us know that you are intending to apply, noting that the level of service MERI can provide in relation to feedback and assistance with proposals will be determined by the amount of lead time available.

SCIP research data consultations

To arrange a booking to meet with a SCIP socio-informatician to discuss research data management and any informatics questions and needs (including help with arc applications), please contact SCIP to request a time, and provide a brief description of your requirements.

What do I need to send?

  • For books – we need the physical book or a copy of the entire front matter up to the first chapter and a copy of your full chapter
  • For journal articles – we need a citation or a copy of the full article
  • For reports – we need a link or copy of the full report, including proof it was made publicly available
  • For conference papers – we need a link to the full proceedings or a copy of your paper and the front pages of proceedings documents up to the first paper

To note on conference papers:

1) papers can only be included where the full paper (not abstract only) was published in a conference proceedings

2) if you are claiming as peer reviewed, you will need to provide proof - either as a statement in the proceedings or an email from the conference organiser

How To Add Publications To Minerva: Minerva Elements is the system used to add and update publications. A Minerva User Guide is available. It is also important to check against the University Publications Collections Guidelines on evidence needed for each publication category. Please contact MERI for further advice on publications collection.
