Luh Putu Shanti Yuliastiti | Master of Education

Luh Putu Shanti Yuliastiti – who goes by Shanti – was awarded an LPDP scholarship from the government of Indonesia, allowing her to study abroad at the University of Melbourne.

After completing a Bachelor of English Language Education on her home island of Bali, Shanti came to Melbourne for her Master of Education, choosing to specialise in Literacies and English.

“I realise there is an urgency of developing students’ literacy back in my home country. Noticing the Master of Education has a literacy specialisation that also connects with language learning (aligning with my English Language Education background) made me sure I had to choose the University of Melbourne.”

Eager to make the most of her time studying here, Shanti is active in a number of university clubs and societies, and takes advantage of the University’s support services, which have assisted her with both academic skills and mental wellbeing.

One highlight of her UniMelb experience was when she performed an Indonesian traditional dance alongside other LPDP scholarship awardees at a cultural event.

“It was an honour to introduce my culture in an international stage and also learn a lot about other cultures.”

While she’s enjoying her time at the University, Shanti ultimately looks forward to returning home and putting her skills to use.

“I am inspired to pursue my career in the education sector, as it is my passion to inspire and improve the education in my country. I believe education is the key to a successful nation’s future.”

It’s a big dream, but she plans to start close to home.

“I hope that I can improve the critical literacy ability, starting small at my hometown back in Singaraja, Bali.”
