The CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) is an innovative observation tool designed to objectively assess classroom quality based on teacher-child interactions, developed by the University of Virginia’s Curry School Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning.
This course is ideal for early childhood leaders and mentors who want to use this method to assess and improve teaching quality and foster better social, emotional and academic outcomes for students, as classrooms with higher CLASS scores are proven to do.
The Faculty of Education currently offers two levels of CLASS Observation Training courses: Pre-K and Toddler.
Learn to collect and use meaningful teaching assessment data
Explore how to collect CLASS teaching assessment data, which is the first step in improving the quality of educator-child interactions. Understand how to use meaningful data on classroom quality to inform coaching interventions.
Understand how to conduct educator observations and give feedback
Gain strategies to conduct formal and informal educator observations using CLASS and provide feedback to help both new and experienced teachers become more effective.
Gain the foundation to become a CLASS coach
Build a strong foundation to become a CLASS coach and develop other educators' CLASS knowledge, so they can apply the tool in their own setting.
