John is an associate professor in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. His teaching and research draw the learning area of health and physical education, including outdoor education, together with educational philosophy and theory, in order to explore fundamental issues of teaching and learning.
He is the author or co-author of several books, including: Creative Physical Education (with Dr Jacqui Peters, Human Kinetics); Education, Experience, Existence: Engaging Dewey, Peirce and Heidegger (monograph, Routledge); Understanding Life in School: From Academic Classroom to Outdoor Education (monograph, Palgrave Macmillan); John Dewey and Education Outdoors (with Dr Jayson Seaman, Sense); Theory and philosophy in education research: Methodological dialogues (with Dr Jennifer Bleazby, Dr Steven Stolz, Dr Maurizio Toscano, and Dr Scott Webster, Routledge).
John is a Fellow of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and a Fellow of Outdoor Education Australia.
