A range of scholarship and funding opportunities are available to future and current students to financially support them through their graduate study.

Financial support

Australian Government loan schemes

If you're an Australian citizen, you may be able to defer all or part of your fees through FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP. With both schemes, you do not need to repay the loan until your income reaches a minimum repayment threshold. The loan program you can access depends on the fee place you are offered:

  • Australian fee-paying place - you may be eligible for FEE-HELP;
  • Commonwealth Supported Place -you may be eligible for the HECS-HELP.

University of Melbourne Financial Aid Services

Financial Aid provides advice and information on the cost of living in Melbourne, student loans and grants, government student assistance, budgeting, tax, and a range of other matters relating to student finances.

Research Training Scheme

From 1 January, 2017, the Research Training Scheme (RTS) will be replaced by the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships.

Graduate Access Melbourne

Graduate Access Melbourne is the University of Melbourne's special entry and access scheme for graduate study. It provides access to applicants whose personal circumstances have had a sustained adverse effect on their academic achievement at undergraduate level or who are members of a specified group known to be underrepresented in higher education.

International Postgraduate Coursework Awards (IPCA)

The International Postgraduate Coursework Award (IPCA) was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high achieving international students undertaking a graduate coursework degree.

The Olive Battersby Scholarship

The Olive Battersby Scholarship is awarded annually to a student taking the Master of Teaching. It is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The recipient will receive approximately $8,000 towards the cost of tuition and other expenses. Applications open 1 March, with students notified about the application process via the February student newsletter.

Queen's College Graduate Education Scholarship

The Queen's College Graduate Education Scholarship is offered to a student who is accepted into a full-time graduate program at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, and who accepts an offer of residency at the College.

Established by the Australian Commonwealth Government, this scholarship is available to high achieving domestic and international students undertaking a Master by research degree or Doctorate by research degree.
