Not just so stories: Practising discursive research for the sake of educational practice

Conceptualising research as an activity of telling useful stories about chosen aspects of reality raises many questions, but also leads to important insights about possible ways of conducting investigations and about their different DOs and DON’Ts. In this colloquium, Professor Anna Sfard from the University of Haifa, Israel, will discuss all these, first in general, and then in the context of discursive research, one that grows out of the assumption about the unity of thinking and communicating. Professor Sfard will illustrate her claims with examples coming from past and ongoing discursive studies on school learning.
