Rethinking online learning: Melding the best of teaching, television, and testing

Professor Samuel D. Gosling, University of Texas, discusses the Synchronous Massive Online Course (or SMOC) which broadcasts live to 2000 students in a quiz and TV show format. The synchronous broadcast model offers a number of benefits including facilitating interactive elements and addressing concerns about cheating. While many challenges remain, experiences and data suggest that large online classes taught using this format have great potential.
