Ethics and applied linguistics research
Most applied linguists subscribe to the core principles of respect for persons, yielding optimal benefits while minimizing harm, and justice. Building on these principles, Dr Peter De Costa, Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics, Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University, will explore the distinction between macroethics and microethics, and address how ethical tensions can be addressed before, during, and after the data collection process.
