History in Education: a discussion
Date: Thursday 7 November
Time: 1pm - 2pm
Venue: Seminar room Level 7, 100 Leicester Street, Melbourne Graduate School of Education
This seminar brings together four researchers – Emma Buchanan, Jessica Gerrard, Amy McKernan and Sophie Rudolph – in discussion about some of the tensions and challenges provoked by researching historically in education. They will introduce their projects, share some reflections, and explore the different ways they all draw on a 'history of the present' in their work.
- Emma - a history of the kindergarten child in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Jessica - the history of radical education (doctorate) and the historical interconnections between labour, learning and homelessness (postdoctoral fellowship)
- Amy – the representation of contentious and ‘difficult’ histories in museums and the educational implications of displaying (or not displaying) these histories
- Sophie – historical perspectives for understanding the educational achievement 'gap' attributed to Australian Indigenous students.
