This talk will reflect on the education system of Pakistan. It will cover different mediums of education and main issues of curriculum including its construction and implementation. Teacher selection and training criteria will also be described. The goals and priorities of political government have implications for education, and this leads to problems for educational institutions. Many social and environmental factors also affect the teaching and learning of students. The progress of projects working for the improvement of the education system in Pakistan, especially those relating to student learning in mathematics and science and female education will also be discussed. Some key points of the millennium declaration regarding education will be discussed including the targets, progress and some hurdles to achieving the targets.
